First and foremost, let us define the word subconscious.
The human mind is composed of the conscious and the subconscious. Like an iceberg, the conscious portion of the mind can be seen floating over the surface. The subconscious portion of the mind, pn the other hand, is the part that is submerged bneath the water surface.
A person’s subconscious is the repository for all of an individual’s life experiences, beliefs, memories, skills, and all the images one has ever seen. It is where everything that a person has ever learned is kept.
The subconscious is responsible for the feelings and emotions a person experiences when dealing with a new situation. The conscious mind, on the other hand, is responsible for actions that are done under an individual’s complete control, such as logic, thought, and calculations. The subconscious mind also controls such bodily functions as breathing and heartbeat. For this reason, the subconscious is often referred to as a person’s autopilot.
Stimulating the subconscious mind can increase one’s mental power and working capacity to the extent that an individual may seem to have superhuman powers. Stories abound of great things being done by individuals who afterwards describe the experience as similar to being carried by a great power within that seemed to be both distinct and greater than their selves. This is the subconscious being harnessed and put into action.
We must first understand the workings of the subconscious mind in order to make the best use of its potential. We need to remember that the subconscious and the conscious mind operate differently.
1. While the conscious mind operates using rational thought, the subconscious uses symbols.
2. Our conscious mind is good at figuring things out. Meanwhile, the subconscious is good at doing things that we already know and have done previously. These things include our skills and habits.
3. Unlike the conscious mind, which tries hard to understand things, the subconscious does not care how things work. It will use, instead, the first thought that comes across.
4. The conscious mind seeks to add to what it knows by spending time to determine the working of things. Meanwhile, the subconscious tends to proceed by doing things that worked for it previously.
The moment we learn how to make these two parts of our mind cooperate, we can improve our life skills and control our emotions better.
The following are some important things to consider in training the subconscious.
Since the subconscious mind acquires knowledge through repetition, not by logic, you need to create a mental picture of what you wish to direct your subconscious to produce. Picture this idea in your mind's eye, and feel its meaning with consciousness. You will need to repeat this visualization process several times a day.
For the subconscious to respond to the impression, suggestion, desire, expectation, and the direction of the conscious mind, the two need to be in touch with each other as the directions are being made. In order for this to happen, the mind needs to be in a meditative state, calm and poised.
We need to have a goal, a very clear idea of what we really want. This is all that is required by the subconscious, which has the ability to remove what we do not desire from both our physical and mental state.
Think positive thoughts. Remember that whatever we think about deeply or intensely, the subconscious takes up and magnify even further. Therefore, do not think of failings, shortcomings, or bad habits.
Confusing the subconscious by focusing on too many things at once is counter-productive. Remember to concentrate only on one thing at a time.
Remember that when you put your whole mind, both the conscious and the subconscious, to solving any problem, it will always result in a solution because you are, in effect, using the full capability of your mind.
Remember that in all things, practice makes perfect. The more we train, the easier our subconscious adapts to the process. It is important to be determined and to believe that the endeavor will work. We must also give the process sufficient time to work.
