The subconscious acquires knowledge via repetition, not by logic. It responds to directions from the conscious mind provided that they are interfacing when these directions are being made. In order for this to happen, the mind should be in a meditative state. It needs to be calm and poised.

This meditative condition of the mind is also called the Alpha state. It is one of several types of electrical brainwave rhythms that are emitted by humans. It can be measured via an Electroencephalogram or EEG. Aside from Alpha rhythms, which are 8 to 12 cycles per second (cps), there are also Betas, 13 to 30 cps; Deltas, 0.05 to 3 cps; and Thetas, 4 to 7 cps.

The findings from this field of research has been applied by a number of companies in the area of deep brain stimulation. The theory behind this is that when the mind is in a deep meditative state, the subconscious mind is more malleable and more open to suggestions. These procedures are often used in combination with sealed flotation tanks, magnetic fields, and sound frequencies for cortical stimulation.

The current applications of this technology includes finding cures for such illnesses as Parkinson's disease, amnesia, and dementia. It is also used as an aid in hastening the recovery and promoting the well-being of chronic patients.

Since the subconscious mind is susceptible to both positive and negative thoughts, training it becomes very important. If it is not trained to focus on positive thoughts, we ran the risk of the subconscious focusing instead on negative thoughts. This situation will then result in our negative thoughts becoming reality.

Here are some techniques and tips on how to harness the power of the subconscious mind:

Affirmations. "I feel great." "Today is light and easy." "It’s getting better and better everyday." These statements or their variants must be consistently but gently repeated to oneself. It can be done loudly or quietly. It does not matter. Focus all your attention on the affirmation while banishing any other distractions or random thoughts. Do this exercise for five minutes daily. The change will not happen immediately but it will affect the way you feel as the day progress.

There are other techniques that can be done aside from repeating your affirmations daily. These methodologies include writing them down, a process that will further imprint their importance within your subconscious. This technique also provides you with a ready list that will remind you to think of positive thoughts. A self-recorded tape of your affirmations can also be made. Identifying a role model and including the traits you want to emulate in your positive affirmations can also be done. This process will also provide you with a concrete goal to aim for.

Visualization. This method has been instrumental in helping a lot of people change their habits or achieve their goals. The idea is to visualize in your mind's eye what you desire. Visualization is a technique that involves relaxation exercises coupled with positive imaging. It works because the subconscious mind cannot distinguish between what is real and what is not. It experiences reality and visualization in the same way.

By having visualized what you desire through your subconscious, you can more easily recognize an opportunity when it shows up.

Since the more you visualize, the easier it becomes, you need to visualize daily. The exercise needs to be done for at least five minutes daily.

The end point must be mapped out in your mind when you visualize. It is also important to associate strong feelings with the scene being visualized. This association will increase the intensity of the visualization. The rule is: The more intense the associated feelings, the more effective is the visualization.

There are quite a number of visualization techniques available aside from simply using your imagination and playing the scenes in your mind. These include collecting photographs of the things you desire and putting those into an album or making a collage out of them. You can then look at those props when you do your daily visualizations. You can even make what are called mind movies complete with images, scenes, and sound. Some of these mind movies can be downloaded from the Internet.

Feeling Good. Focus on feeling good and you can influence good results. Have you noticed that good things happen to us when we feel great? This is not mere coincidence. The truth of the matter is our life reflects how we feel.

A final advice: In order to fully and effectively harness the power of the subconscious mind, patience is required. Unfortunately, today's society is full of people who demand instant gratification.

Remember that things, no matter how bleak they may be at the moment, always work out in the end. When we become impatient, we actually get slowed down. We get distracted and we can end up on the wrong track.

Please bear in mind that success does not happen overnight.
